H Hakimi's notes: The above were civilian decorations. The Military had their own the highest of which  was called (Zulfaqar). There were stringent criteria for receiving the latter. During the reign of Mohammad Reza Shah, I think only one military man got it. I do not remember his name. Interestingly he was of a low rank and I think he was terribly wounded in the Azarbeijan conflict. His rank was a Captain, but owing to his Zulfaqar decoration even the senior 5 start generals had to salute him first!!! I had seen him in the Military academy; he was very shy and reserved despite being honoured so highly.

For the Civilians there were two kinds, The Orders of the Crown (Taj) and of the Homayoun. The highest was the first class and was only bestowed to the visiting heads of state. The second class were for Prime ministers and high officials who gave outstanding services to the nation. It had a green shoulder sash that was worn diagonally from right shoulder to the left side of the body with decorative rosette almost at the end.
